A technical team of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) arrived in Peru to learn about the Agricultural Health Service’s (Senasa) health certification process for pomegranates.

This is a required step the Asian country requires to allow the entry of this fruit into their territory, according to information from Fresh Plaza.

“The team will visit the productive areas of Ica, Chincha, and Arequipa from March 18 to the 22 to observe production sites and packing plants. They will also visit Senasa’s Quarantine Treatment Center”, the aforementioned media said.

Peru’s Agricultural Health Service is also carrying out scientific research as part of a strategy to access new markets for this fruit. One of these studies consists of getting rid of the fruit fly through cold treatment.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), said that Peru expects to increase the export volumes by country, located mainly in Asia and the Middle East. To date, the management for the access of pomegranate to China is quite advanced”, Fresh Plaza wrote.
