This year, Peruvian textiles and clothing exports will grow 8%, which means four years of expansion for this sector, according to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Edgar Vásquez.
“We believe that 2019 will be a positive year for the sector, for which we work with Peru’s commercial advisors abroad,” he said, according to El Peruano.
He also pointed out that Venezuela used to be an important market for Peru, but since four years ago, the crisis that is taking place in that country has caused an impact for Peruvian clothing and textile exports.
“It is evident that until four years ago we had in Venezuela a market of around $600 million US dollars for the sector. Of course (the crisis) generated an impact, but we are working together, and we are already three years of recovery of textile exports garments,” Vásquez said.
The minister informed that in 2018 the sector sent textile products to 113 markets, highlighting the United States ($679 million US dollars), Brazil ($70 million US dollars) and Chile ($64 million US dollars). The main products were cotton t-shirts and shirts, cotton cardigan and alpaca yarn.
