With 15 votes from Fuerza Popular, Apra, Acción Republicana and Contigo, the Constitution Commission decided to file the legal initiative for the advancement of elections promoted by President Martín Vizcarra.
“Only Yonhy Lescano opposed the filing after five benches previously retired from the session as a sign of protest”, La República explained in an article published on Thursday.
The head of state is expected to rule on the actions to be taken. He said earlier this month that he has the support of the people to successfully carry out the project to hold early general elections presented by his Government.
On July 28, Vizcarra announced the presentation of a bill to shorten the presidential and congressional mandates in one year, by having early general elections.
