Export business of figs from Ancash continues to grow. The fruit lands in places like the U.S. and Canada.
Andina reports that 192 sanitation certificates for the export of Ancash figs were registered in 2019. The province of Santa is where the majority of figs are grown, specifically in the fields of La Carbonera and the Nepeña valley.
Peru has exported figs to the U.S. since 2016. This year, 347,000 kilos of figs were exported from Ancash to the U.S., Canada, European Union, and Dubai.
The province of Santa counts 300 hectares for the production of fresh figs. The two export companies in this region are “Exportadora Frutícola del Sur” and “Fundo La Kiarita.”
