As an app for tablets and smartphones, users can access to 2,800 books.
Yesterday the first national digital library in Peru was launched with a total of 2,800 books which can be consulted without any cost.
This service includes books of different themes and titles on social sciences, administration, literature, mathematics, gardening, and self-help, explained a spokesman of the National Library of Peru in San Borja to Exitosa.
“We want to cover all the needs of the population so that they can feel that they can use the virtual library as if it were a newspaper,” spokespeople from the library said to Exitosa.
The initiative for the creation of the digital library seeks to reduce reading gaps and improve reading comprehension in schools, as well as in people of all ages.
To access the virtual library, you will need to download an app to your tablet or smartphone. You can even write comments and highlight phrases on the digital books if you need to, once you register as a user.
This pilot is a testing phase for the library app in order to evaluate the characteristics and trends of use. “Not only Peruvians in Peru and the world can use it, but anyone who wants to do so from anywhere in the world.”, Exitosa revealed.
The selected books are suitable for people over eight years of age, all written in Spanish. There are also audio books for people with visual disabilities.
