Luiz da Rocha Soares, former Odebrecht international treasurer, said yesterday that the company gave $3 million US dollars to Horacio Cánepa, ex-arbitrator of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima (CCL), in exchange for favors in arbitration proceedings against the Peruvian State.

This was reported by El Comercio in a press note, where they also informed that Da Rocha testified on Thursday during the fourth day of interrogations conducted by the special Lava Jato team in Curitiba, Brazil.

The money that Cánepa received was allegedly used to support payments and fictitious contracts of $1 and $2 million US dollars.

“According to sources of El Comercio, Da Rocha Soares had in his possession a copy of the signed contracts between Klienfield, of Odebrecht, and the ‘offshore’ Maxcrane Finance, constituted in Panama and whose beneficiary was Cánepa”, the media wrote.

In addition, at the request of the witness’s defense, it was decided that these documents be sent to Peru via international cooperation.

It was also known that Cánepa ruled in favor of Odebrecht in 16 of the 19 arbitrations in which he participated between 2009 and 2015. In exchange, Cánepa would have received $1,442,000 in five parts.

In March of last year, an impediment to leaving the country was ordered for 18 months for Cánepa.
