Guatemala’s Registry of Industrial Property recognized the Pisco Denomination of Origin in favor of Peru.
The Denomination of Origin means that it is determined that a certain product originated in a certain area or region and that its quality or characteristics are due exclusively to the geographical environment.
This achievement is due to efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru and the embassy in Guatemala, in coordination with the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi).
“In this sense, the efforts aimed at extending the recognition of Peru’s rights over our flag drink in the world and preventing the registration of brands that wrongfully use our Denomination of Origin continue to produce results”, Andina News Agency explained.
For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indecopi, these diplomatic and legal actions respond to a strategy to protect and maintain the legitimacy of Pisco in the international arena.
