According to the INEI (Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática), the national institute in Peru for statistics, the monetary poverty in Peru fell last year to 20.5%.
“In 2017 it registered an increase for the first time in the millennium, up to 21.7%”, said El Comercio, adding that this equaled about 6,906,000 people. The good news is that in 2018, poverty was reduced by 1.2% in 2018.
According to INEI, with this result, 313,000 people stopped being in a condition of monetary poverty in 2018. In the urban areas, the incidence of monetary poverty was 14.4% and in rural areas the percentage was 42.1%
