An American tourist decided to stay in Iquitos to help citizens clean the Itaya River.

Eco-friendliness is one of the values that define Peru’s reinvention. Not only for its importance regarding eco-tourism opportunities but also for the uniting of world ideology to combat climate change.
On a grassroots level, a great example of someone committed to preserving ecosystems in Peru is the American tourist Xena Radnor, who arrived in Peru with the purpose of learning more about the Amazon, but stayed for a way bigger challenge: cleaning the polluted Itaya River.
Xena was shocked by what she found in Loreto, a heavily polluted river receiving all the nearby population waste. In a humanitarian effort, she decided to stay in order to help other citizens clean the Itaya River without any kind of payment.
In the following video, Xena Radnor reports that it was Maykol Ahuite García, a neighbor from Iquitos that she met on the trip, who helped her get in touch with people from the lower area of Belén to convince them to work together to clean the Itaya River.
After several days of conversations with the volunteers, Xena decided to buy cleaning materials from her own money gloves, bags, shovels, among others. After cleaning the districts of San Jose, San Francisco, San Andres, July 28, December 8, Moena Caño, Puerto Santa Rosa, among others, she and the volunteers managed to collect more than 10 tons of waste that contaminated the Itaya River.

Do you think this is a good initiative from Xena?
