The Peruvian fresh mango campaign is about to end and shipments of this fruit are expected to reach 170,000 tons.
This number is 16.67% less than what was exported in the previous period, said the general manager of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Peruvian Mango (APEM), Juan Carlos Rivera Ortega, to Fresh Plaza.
In addition, it was known that the main market for Peruvian mangoes is Europe, followed by the United States. Rivera also informed that the most dispatched mango corresponds to the Kent variety.
“The general manager of APEM also stated that there were a couple of new mango enterprises in Olmos (Lambayeque) that seek to market their offer in Piura’s late window or Casma’s early window (February-March)”, Fresh Plaza explained.
Rivera’s company is also working on improving mango production and its quality and efficiency. “To do this, the Association published a manual of good agricultural practices, a table of colors to recognize the physiological period of the fruit, and carried out a first cycle of field workshops on pruning, nutrition, and pests for small producers of mango”, Fresh Plaza said.
