Avian products and by-products imports from Chile were halted – reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation – to protect the condition of Peru as a country free of Avian Influenza.
“The decision was reached by taking knowledge, through a communication from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE for its name in Spanish)”, said Gestión.
Therefore, Senasa has reinforced the surveillance actions of vehicles and people in external control posts and border crossings to prevent the attempted entry of poultry, eggs or other merchandise illegally.
Given this, the Senasa has arranged the following actions:
1. Permanent coordination with external control posts to complete the review of hand luggage of all passengers and crew from Chile, as well as the compartments used to enter them illegally.
2. Evaluate in real-time, the development of the focus presented and the sanitary measures that the Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has been adopting around this issue.
Minagri reported that Peru is free of Avian Influenza, a highly contagious viral disease that affects both domestic birds and wild birds.
