Blueberry exports grew 62.5% this season in Peru, reaching 78,000 tons.
Last season the total of exports of this fruit in Peru totaled 48,000 tons and the projections for the next are of 110,000 tons, which equals a growth of 35%, Agraria reported.
“This was announced by the vice president of Pro Blueberries and general manager of the agricultural company Valle y Pampa, Miguel Bentín, who said that in the recent campaign exports reached $520 million US dollars. For the next season, he estimated, it would reach $770 million US dollars (June 2019-April 2020)”, the aforementioned media wrote.
In addition, the said that the demand for Peruvian blueberries is growing since it is “a new and attractive product” and it has “already shown its viability”, he added.
The main market for Peruvian blueberries continues to be the United States with a 56% share and it is expected to continue maintaining a quota of between 45% and 55% as it is the country’s natural export destination.
