While Peru improved in 2017, comparing to the previous year, there are countries with extreme values of corruption, such as Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, and Venezuela.
Peru continues as one of the countries in the world in which higher corruption rates are perceived, according to a Transparency International (Transparencia Internacional) survey published on Wednesday and released by Proética, said El Comercio.
This poll, which is done in 180 countries, puts Peru in the 96th place with 37 over 100 points. The higher the score, the less perception of corruption there is.
“We are in the last third of one of the regions that provide the greatest number of countries in which very serious levels of corruption are perceived”, said Walter Albán, Executive Director of the Peruvian chapter of Transparency International, Proética to El Comercio.
Albán also mentioned that the countries with extreme values of corruption are currently Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, and Venezuela.
As for Peru, there is a slight improvement of 35 points comparing the data of 2017 to 2016. The Executive Director believes that advances done by the Public Ministry in investigating large corruption cases probably promote these results.
“We are not only stagnant in large levels of corruption (…), but it is likely that this situation can still get worse”, thinks Albán.
