The fishing city of Caral, Áspero, will celebrate its 14th anniversary on April 26 and 27 with a series of cultural activities.
“According to the investigations, the importance of Áspero for Peru lies in its marine production, fishing technology and excellent relations with other communities”, El Comercio reported. “The sea was the main source for the exchange of goods, knowledge and experiences through the implementation of commercial networks, in a framework of shared benefit and intercultural respect for customs, ideologies and languages”, they continued.
To celebrate this city an agenda, that begins on Friday 26, will include a parade at 4:45 pm where people will revisit the “millenary past”. Then, at 8:00 pm at the archaeological site Áspero, the traditional Pago a la Cochamama will be developed, with the participation of artists who will represent the Lady of the Four Tupus and her retinue.
Finally, a shaman will involve all of the visitors in a ritual, which will end with a performance by Peruvian dancers.
On Saturday 27, from 9:00 am, the archaeological site will allow free visits to the Interpretation Center and the fishing town Áspero, directed by the director of the Caral Archaeological Zone, Ruth Shady, in order to show the results of the investigation and conservation of monuments.
Also, in the X Anchovy, Fish and Seafood Festival, sale and tasting of dishes from the local gastronomy will highlight the nutritional value of fish for human development, according to El Comercio.
