Foreign Minister of Japan, Taro Kono, arrived yesterday in Lima on an official visit with President of Peru, Martin Vizcarra, and Foreign Minister Nestor Popolizio, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations and international cooperation.
Kono is expected to start his activities today with a meeting with the Foreign Minister and later with Vizcarra in the Government Palace in Lima.
“In addition, he plans to meet with representatives of the more than 100,000 Peruvians of Japanese origin in the country and is expected to announce the installation in Lima of a Japan Foundation headquarters, which will be the first in a Spanish-speaking country in South America”, informed Gestión.
Another important issue that will be addressed is the ratification of the new version of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP). Japan is interested in closing their linked relationship so that the treaty is reinforced for free trade.
It is expected that the visit will also serve for the authorities of the two countries to announce the celebrations for the 120th anniversary of the arrival in Peru of the first Japanese migrants, to be held next year.
