THE BACKSTORY
George Pullman, a prosperous train manufacturer in 19th-century Chicago, indirectly inspired the name Pullman. The Pullman Company was famous for launching the first sleeping trains in the United States and developing upscale services for railroad travelers. 1894, the Compagnie Internationale des Grands Hotels was created to manage the growing collection of hotels worldwide. Thirty years later, the CIWL introduced Pullman wagons designed for upscale European leisure travel. The Pullman brand became so popular that CIWL’s top hotels were turned into Pullman Hotels. Since 2013, the Pullman brand has focused on artistic, culinary, and visual experiences with the motto “Work hard, play hard.” The yin/yang symbol inspired the new logo, reflecting the business/leisure duality.
YOUR ROOM
The renovated hotel (2019) features open and comfortable spaces that create a welcoming atmosphere. It offers 250 rooms of 322 sq ft, suites of 398 sq ft, and executive suites of 828 sq ft with additional dining space. The rooms are spacious and well-lit, allowing relaxation, with a workspace if needed. The bathroom has a tub and shower with C.O Bigelow products featuring intense citrus and wood notes in refillable containers, part of the hotel’s measures for environmental impact reduction. The mini-bar has water and beverages and a Britt pod coffee maker for the morning coffee.
THE MENU
Residente is a restaurant that caters to the hotel’s food and beverage needs. In the mornings, its buffet breakfast includes stations with fruits, cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, hot dishes, healthy and gluten-free products. During the day and night, Chef Diana Ballen prepares classic Peruvian dishes, from fresh ceviche and delicate crab causa to hearty dishes like shrimp sticky rice, lomo saltado, or Chaufa rice, to decadent desserts like chocolate textures, Crema Volteada (Peruvian take on crème caramel), or Basque cheesecake with berries.
The Residente bar has a wide selection of international spirits and offers classic cocktails like a negroni, Chicano, or espresso Martini and ten signature cocktails. The Mellow Bar Tonic is notable, made with gin and Matacuy, a distillate infused with herbs from Cusco, or their Carajillo, which uses vodka treated with sesame seeds. The Residente ambiance extends from the main dining area to outdoor terraces with a pool view and the lobby bar area.
WALK AROUND
Ideally located in the San Isidro district, one block from Lima’s most important business center—a safe and walkable area where you can enjoy cafes, bars, and restaurants. The San Isidro district houses El Olivar Park, a green area with paths that is home to over 1600 olive trees, museums, a library, fashion stores of distinguished local and international brands, and restaurants and bars such as Astrid y Gastón, Osaka, Limaq, or Carnaval.
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
The check-in experience is fast, with stations set up to make the process efficient; in cases where many people are, the waiting areas are comfortable, making check-in stress-free.
Once the documents are handed over, the bellboy will take you to your room. The hotel is intuitively designed, and immediate assistance can be obtained if needed.
In the center of the hotel, there is a Sun deck, pool, and jacuzzi; they also have a small gym that covers basic needs for cardio and strength training.
IN THE KNOW: One of the differentiating values is the variety of activities held in the hotel’s areas. Since 2017, Pullman launched the Artist Playground program, where each Pullman hotel independently seeks local talents to exhibit their art, allowing the hotel to incorporate local art activities as the recent installment of Art Battle: Lima.
