According to the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), air traffic in Peru grew 8.3% compared to 2017.
In addition, the latest report of the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) indicated that 37,209,538 passengers, between locals and foreigners, flew in the country.
Ivan Besich, general manager of Corpac, told Perú 21 that the number of flights in the country grew as well. They registered an increase of 1.4%, nevertheless the volume of transported cargo decreased by 4%.
“As expected, the largest passenger movement occurred at the capital’s airport, Jorge Chávez, followed by Alejandro Velasco Astete in Cusco, Rodríguez Ballón in Arequipa, the FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta in Iquitos and the FAP Guillermo Concha Iberico in Piura”, Perú 21 said.
Tourism in Peru contributes to 3.9% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which equals what the country invested in education during 2017.
This year, estimations are that foreign tourist traffic could increase by 9%, according to Mincetur (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism).
