The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Edgar Vásquez, reported today that the New Year holiday will mobilize about 1.2 million Peruvians nationwide, which will generate an economic impact up to $152 million US dollars.
These figures are the result of the study “Intention of Travel during the End of the Year Holiday 2018“, which was prepared by the Directorate General of Research and Studies on Tourism and Handicrafts of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), reported Andina News Agency.
According to this study, almost a quarter (24%) of tourists residing in Lima will travel to destinations located in the same region.
In addition to Lima, they will visit Ica (20%), Lambayeque (7%), Cusco and Junín (with 6% each), Piura, Arequipa and La Libertad (with 5% each), among other regions.
“Minister Vásquez emphasized that the Peruvian capital will be the main issuing city for domestic tourists with 61% of the trips to be made”, according to Andina.
As for the main reasons for traveling, Mincetur pointed out: recreation (64%); and visiting family and friends (35%).
Regarding the means of transport, 59% will use interprovincial transport, 22% a private vehicle or their own vehicle, 17% airplane and 2% by other means.
