UNMSM Students Won A Huawei World Artificial Intelligence Contest In China

Three students from the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) won first place in one of the categories of the “Huawei ICT Competition”, a global contest of Artificial Intelligence, Technological Certification and Telecommunications developed by the Huawei multinational in Shenzhen, China.

Carlos Ramírez, Luigi Castillo, and Robert Gutiérrez, students of Systems Engineering and Computer Science, participated in the contest, which consisted of tests that combined solutions of social problems with the use of technology”, El Comercio reported.

To win the right to participate in this world event, the students had to win previously the regional competition that took place in Mexico at the beginning of the year and where they fought against teams from Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.

Nilo Carrasco, a professor in the area of ​​Networks, communication and information security at the School of Systems Engineering and Information Technology, commented that these students “are self-taught,” said El Comercio.

“We must clarify that these guys are self-taught, what teachers do is to guide them”, he told the media.
