Frieze dated from 5,000 years ago found in Peru

A frieze that would have been sculpted 5,000 years ago, was found at Vichama archaeological complex, some 120km to the north of Lima, according to archaeologists of the Caral-Supe project.

According to a press release, the most notable part of the frieze is one that represents a human hand holding an object like a knife or a spindle.

The exposed part of the hand measures 23 x 20 inches, and the instrument is 35 cm long by 20 centimeters wide.

The archaeologists think that the frieze might be associated with ceremonial activities, and could probably represent a particular scene or ritual slaughter.

Dated from 5,000 years ago, this would be one of the oldest friezes in the region.

In the world?  Not quite.  Heck, we learned all this stuff in elementary school.  The schools down here in Peru must leave out whatever doesn't apply to the government's "nationalist agenda."  FYI The remains of "Lucy" found in Africa are around 3 million years old.  Not 5000.  China has a 5000 year old culture?  Oliver, your statement is a perfect example of the pathetic Peruvian school system and just silly.

Comparing the age of South American civilization to China or Europe is laughable.  Our human ancestors were living in China over a million years ago.  South America was populated much later, via the Bering Land Bridge, and North America was reached and populated first.  Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America were all populated long before South America.

The Greeks and Romans were building palaces, discovering astronomy and living in civilization long before the 12th century Incan barbarians were slaughtering each other.  If memory serves correct, the Parthenon was built 2000 years before Macchu Pichu.

So ends the history lesson.

David, what do friezes in peru have to do with homonid fossils? show me homonid friezes and you may have a point. You could have referred to cave paintings and made sense. Instead you just sound sort of arrogant.

Take a chill pill David.  LUCY is a fragmented prehistoric ape skeleton that scientists do not agree on in the first place.  The Lucy fragments are not a FRIEZE, hence, Lucy is not representative of a CULTURE.
You can potificate on the 'Bering Strait Theory' all you like and until doomsday, but that doesn't matter since most of the archaeological community is now questioning that assumption. (FINALLY!)
The discussion has nothing to do with the age of man or which continent was settled first.  You jumped before the starting pistol.
He was talking about CULTURE that can be historically verified.
Science is always changing its conclusions in light of new information.  Science is antithetical to dogmatism.

That was in response to Oliver's ridiculous statement comparing the ancient culture of China (which he claimed to be 5000 years old) to Peru.  Please, get over it with the "Peru culture" because Peru's history is relatively young and doesn't belong on the same page as ancient China's or Europe's.

Peruvians are like programmed drones with their nationalism and government propaganda.

Dude I am in china and the chinese themselves tell me they have a 5,000 year old culture. They play it on TV every five minutes.

We are not talking about human remains. 5,000 year old architecture in Peru is worth a hoot.

China and the REST OF THE WORLD are in for a BIG SHOCK-  Check out Hueyatlaco in Mexico,  Before you post anything more about the ages of mankind.  And watch how this info has been suppressed both in Mexico, and the U.S.
