Peru's Women's Affairs Ministry has issued
an official government resolution apologizing for the abuses and the exclusion that the afro-Peruvian people has suffered in Peru since the colonial times, and also acknowledging its contribution to the affirmation of a national identity.
The document says that this apology and acknowledgement will have a public official ceremony, during which there will be vows committing to building a society with justice and tolerance towards the multicultural population in the country.
The resolution also indicates that the Women's Affair Ministry will establish public policies to promote the development of afro-Peruvian people.
The ancestors of Afro-Peruvians began arriving in the 1500s, often as slaves of Spanish
conquistadors.
