The number of confirmed cases of AH1N1 influenza in Peru
rose to 77, according to a statement issued by Peru’s Ministry of Health (Minsa).
Regarding this, the Ministry urged Peruvian citizens to continue taking preventive measures against the new influenza AH1N1, since the World Health Organization ( WHO) is considering raising pandemic alert to Phase 6.
Eduardo Cruz, from the Minsa's Directorate of Peoples Health (DGSP), said that despite all health facilities have the right and sufficient treatments to face any emergency in relation to this pandemic,
citizens should continue with the surveillance and prevention measures at home, educational institutions and workplaces.
According to Cruz, health services will expand and strengthen the program of vaccination against normal or seasonal influenza in children less than five years of age, giving priority to children under two years, senior citizens, and those people with low defenses caused by previous infections.
