Mexicans will not need a visa to visit Peru

LivinginPeru.com
Isabel Guerra

Mexican citizens wishing to travel to Peru will not require anymore to apply for a visa to enter the country, according to a Supreme Decree published in the Official Gazette, El Peruano.

This means that Mexicans can travel to Peru only with their passports.

The Decree aims to facilitate the entry of Mexican tourists and to increase their arrivals into the country.

The average spending of Mexicans tourists during their stay in Peru is $ 1.105, which places them among the tourists with higher levels of spending in Latin America.

According to the latest figures from 2008 about 28.190 Mexicans visited Peru.

There goes the neighborhood.

It is not $1.105. It is $1,105.

Most likely one of the big Mexican drug cartels has bribed Peruvian officials into dropping the visa requirement so as to further facilitate the entrance of drug gangs into Peru.

Jet;

That was my first thought, too.  Given the unfortunate circumstance of Mexico and the drug trade right now, I would think this is a very silly thing to do.

And Gary has a good point too - what about a recipricole gesture by the Mexican government?

Relax, when Peru has a competive economy in the future, many countries will welcome you without a visa. We meet undocumented people from Mexico,Peru and other LA countries every year in the US.Mexico was more attracted to the US because they could always find guaranteed work IN THE PAST.The tourist dollars matter more to your country than any H1N1 threat possibly carried in from any country. The US values tourist equally for their dollars spent here.I believe many Peruvians would use an easy entry into Mexico only to illegally enter N.America.

Its not the better moment what government has determined that mexican citizens will not need a visa to visit Peru becouse Mexico has a
delicated situation the violence for narcotics this mean that mexican
delinquents enter as tourist laundry money and others big problems. The
authorities should act intelligently, keep to ayes open, and give safety to all peruvians and tourists.

I AGREE WITH "TOURISTS" .  BUT AS YOU SAID, "GUARANTEED WORK - IN THE PAST", MANY MEXICANS ARE LEAVING N.AMERICA NOW.
ANY PERUVIANS WOULD FIND OUT QUICKLY THAT WITHOUT A SUPPORT SYSTEM IN PLACE BEFORE THEY ENTER U.S. THEY WOULD BE IN WORSE SHAPE VERY QUICKLY.

# Junior says :

I wonder what the real reason for this is. There's gotta be more than just making Peru more accessible to Mexicans because a bunch of Mexicans visit the country each year.

I also agree there should be reciprocity, but like it's been said, one too many Peruvians would use Mexico as a gateway into America. All of the other central American countries require that Peruvians get a visa before arrival.

It's sad that Peruvians need visas to go pretty much everywhere but we'll welcome almost everyone. *sigh*

Well there was another article saying that our biggest tourists are the US, Ecuador, Argentina and Chile so letting the Mexicans in is not a big problem. If the drug kingpins want visas they will get them anyway this is no problem. But it will make the genuine mexican tourist's life easier if wanting to come to Peru. No problems I say the more dollars they spend here the better

Wow, unbelievable I cannot believe that Peru is making it easier for Mexican drug dealers to enter Peru. What is happening? Is Peruvian governmant not thinking straight. Whats next, Peruvians are going to start talking with Mexican accents. Wow, people of Peru I feel so sorry for all of you. PERUVIAN GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO RETHINK WHAT THEY JUST DID.

# Carlos Benavides says :

Hope Peruvians will not need visas to visit Mexico.

# Junior says :

Peruvians have to apply for visas to go to Mexico BUT there's no fee to apply and it only takes one business day for the Embassy to process applications. Tourists visas last for 10 years. So it's just a matter of submitting what they want to see without paying a fee or waiting forever to get a visa to go to Mexico. No biggie, in my humble opinion.

Time to create peruvian tacos ,advertise it with a big "cartel" and they may have to expand the jails too .Ohhh.. but they have the $1,105 to use right?

# Carlos Benavides says :

Mexicans should give Peru Visa free travel it cant just go one way.

# Junior says :
28 July, 2009 [ 10:29 ]

Like I said before, it doesn't cost a penny to apply for a Mexican visa, but yes, there's paperwork involved. It'd be simply easier for Peruvians to just travel to Mexico with a passport and getting a visa upon arrival.
It should not go one way, but it can. Look at North America and Europe. We have to go through almost hell to get a visa to get into their countries, but they can just board a plane and come here and I personally know TONS of them who have overstayed their welcome in this country. Not fair.

# Robinson says :

Peru has a lot of places for tourism, if there are more tourists, it is better for our economy. We should to know that every dollar has spent by a tourist in our country means more employment for peruvians (for hotels, business in tourism, restaurants, handcrafters, and so on).
Think about the turism like a way to increase our economy.

# Martin says :
28 July, 2009 [ 13:07 ]

Tourism in Peru, though good for the country, does not add quality, decent paying jobs. Education, education, education [and less children by those who can not decently support their children] is what is needed to bring Peru into the so-called 1st. world. Just check the numbers - how many Peruvians are in the socio-economic classes 1,2,3, or 4? It is the value of a person's labor that counts if you want to live the so-called 'good life'. For example with decent medical attention.

HEY JUNIOR, I DONT UNDERSTAND THE IDEA BEHIND JUST TRAVELING TO ANOTHER BORDER AND GETTING A VISA THERE. SAY THE MEXICAN BORDER FOR EXAMPLE. A PERUVIAN WOULD HAVE TO GET THROUGH COSTA RICA, HONDURAS AND WHATNOT BEFORE GETTING TO MEXICO ANYWAY. ARE YOU SUGGESTING THAT YOU COULD SINPLY TRAVEL THROUGH ALL THOSE COUNTRIES APPLYING FOR VISAS AS YOU GO????

I REALLY DONT KNOW, PLEASE EXPLAIN. THANX, GARY

# Jackie says :

Okay, i will try to be nicer, so let it be ok for Mexicans to visit beautiful Peru, but let them not overstay their visit. THEY CAN VISIT BUT PLEASE DO NOT BE THINKING OF PERMANETLY STAYING IN BEAUTIFUL PERU. Peru does not need to worry about how many drug dealers have came into their country they have others important issues to worry about. The government of Peru needs to seriously re think about what they did. If in the next study that Peru does and it shows that violence and immigrants from Mexico has rised, they need to put two in two together. Personally from my experience here in the USA all I see that mostly Mexicans bring are crimes and violence. GOD bless you Peru.

# TO GARY says :
28 July, 2009 [ 18:09 ]

I'm not sure I understand you, Gary. Or perhaps you misunderstood me. What I meant was that it'd be easier to not have to apply for tourist visas BEFORE leaving Peru. Instead, it'd be much cooler to just be able as a tourist with our passports and getting a tourist visa upon arrival at customs at the airport for 60 days or whatever.

Say that you wanna travel through Central America. It'd be nice to just get on a bus and go accross all borders, getting your passport stamped at each border without any hassle. But of course, that is not the case. Instead, we have to apply for a visa for each country BEFORE travelling, which is a pain in the @ss.

# Mariela says :

I think the Peruvian goverment has to rethink about this issue. There should be a limitation or something which was able to prohibit drug trade.

I am American and going to a wedding in Cancun,  I would like to have to company of my Peruvian girlfriend,  how hard would it be for her to get the visa to stay at the resort for the week with me?
