Archaeologists unearthed the mummy inside the archeological site of Cajamarquilla.
A group of researchers from the National University of San Marcos discovered a mummy that is thought to be between 800-1200 years old, as reported by the University.
The preserved body is said to be of a 25-30 year-old male traveler, who arrived to the site from the mountains.
Cajamarquilla is a pre-Inca commercial center and is located in Ate-Vitarte, east of Lima city. The mummy was found inside a tomb with its hands over its face and rope tied around the entire body. Outside of the tomb, researchers found remains of sea mollusks and llama bones that were most likely placed as offerings.
Because the mummy was found in the center of the site, the researchers believe that it was a high-status person, perhaps a head trader.
