Peru’s tourism sector attracts about $600 million US dollars, according to Canatur, the National Chamber of Tourism in the country.

Carlos Canales, president of Canatur, said that this number comes from the development of several projects in Peru.

“We hope that with the help of a new promotion strategy we will grow two digits in what refers to the arrival of international tourists from 2020,” Canales told Andina News Agency. He also highlighted that every year the flow of tourists to the country increases.

For example, in 2015 there were 3.5 million tourists in Peru, and in 2018 the country received 4.4 million people.

“One of the destinations of most foreign visitors to this country is the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, which is one of the first historical and cultural attractions”, Canales said, according to Xinhua news.

He also said that the main countries of origin are Chile, with around 1.3 million tourists, followed by the United States with 600,000 visitors, and also Australia, Canada, China and the countries of the European Union.
