The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Edgar Vásquez, said that he and his team are working on the implementation of “Tax-Free”, a mechanism that will allow international tourists not to pay taxes in Peru, and therefore promote greater consumption of products in the country.

Vásquez also told Gestión that he is working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and Sunat and that the project will go live within three months.

“We must have the infrastructure, for example, at the airport to make a space for tourists to go and make the corresponding requests, the corresponding implementation is lacking and we are going to work on that (…) This should be worked on in the next three months,” said the minister.

On the other hand, Sunat is in the process of defining the mechanism that should be implemented in the country to achieve this benefit for foreign tourists.

“This benefit would apply to non-domiciled persons who remain in the country for a period of no less than two calendar days or more than 60 calendar days for each entry into the country”, Gestión explained.
