Peru is hoping to increase the number of foreign tourists in the country by around 8-9% by increasing air connections to make it easier for people to travel.
The deputy director of Peruvian Tourism Promotion, Sandra Doig, told Efe that connectivity is the key to succeed in this project. She also highlighted the regional flights from Cusco to Iquitos or Trujillo, or to Bogotá and Santiago de Chile abroad that people can now choose from.
“Regional connections help us a lot, said Doig, since foreign tourists, who usually arrive in Lima and then travel to Cusco to see that city and Machu Picchu, can then fly to other areas, especially the Amazon or the beaches without going through the capital”, she said according to El Diario.
Doig is responsible for Peru’s presence in the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Spain, taking place from January 23 to 27 in its 39th edition. This event is the global meeting point for tourism professionals, they explain on their website.
According to her, thanks to these new connections Peru has made, the country has been able to open more destinations to foreign tourism. Therefore, it is expected that in 2019 the number of foreign tourists in Peru increases to 8% or 9% this year.
