Peru Assures That Dakar Rally 2019 Will Take Place

The government of Peru assured the realization of the Dakar Rally 2019 by declaring it of national interest today.

After having rethought the decision to cancel the event, the government announced that the 100% Peruvian Dakar will be carried out entirely on its territory, said Gestión yesterday.

“The Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), French company organizing the Dakar, announced on Thursday the decision taken by the Peruvian authorities and confirmed that the next edition of the race will depart from Lima on January 6 and will end in the same Peruvian capital on the day 17 of the same month”, you can read in the aforementioned media.

The declaration of natural interest is yet to be published in the country’s official newspaper El Peruano. It will allow the Peruvian Executive prioritize the rally and do the necessary investments for it to take place effectively.

Last week, the Prime Minister, César Villanueva, said that the country had a tight budget to organize the rally. This “meant that they were evaluating how to maintain their commitment to the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Culture, Environment and Economy and Finance”, according to Gestión.

Nevertheless, the Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries, Luis Villacorta, said that he and the ministry are in favor of any event that can offer guarantees of protection to heritage.
