Peru is currently the world’s largest passion fruit exporter and to maintain this leadership, the country is developing new varieties of the product.
According to Fresh Plaza, the main passion fruit production areas are Barranca, Chimbote and Olmos and more than 90% of the production is exported as juices, concentrates, pulp and nectar based on this fruit.
“In 2018, passion fruit exports reported $41 million US dollars”, Fresh Plaza said, adding that the producers are seeking to strengthen the production chain through various activities.
In addition, the exporters association, Adex, recommended to promote joint work between the public and private sector and strengthen technical assistance in pruning practices, fertilization and phytosanitary management, soils evaluation for fertilization and proper plot agronomic management.
Finally, Fresh Plaza announced the second International Maracuyá (Passion Fruit) Contest which will take place on September 5 and 6 at the San Martín de Porres University in Chiclayo.
