Peruvian Bananas Need A New Market

Share

Peru’s bananas need to find new markets because the country has increased its supply of this fruit.

According to Fresh Plaza, the European and the United States market are saturated, so Peru needs to look into Asia.
“This was stated by the president of the National Banana Board (JNB), Valentin Ruiz Delgado, who pointed out that this increase in production had already led to saturation problems in Europe and the United States, which made it necessary to open more markets in Asia for Peru’s organic bananas”, the aforementioned media said.
When there is overproduction the product is destined for the local market which pays a lower price. This has led, according to Ruiz, to exports not increasing, but it is not what is expected for 2019.
“However, this will depend on the availability of water resources and there is concern among the producers of Piura (where there are 7,500 hectares of organic banana) because it hasn’t rained”, Fresh Plaza explained.
