Yesterday FIFA announced the nominees for the 2018 Fan Award and Peru is on the list!
“The fans of the Peruvian national team are candidates to win in the category of the FIFA Fan Award, where they compete with the supporters of Japan and Senegal, as well as the Chilean Sebastián Carrera”, said El Comercio today.
The FIFA TV YouTube channel explained that the nominated video shows how Peruvian fans traveled halfway around the globe to witness their country’s first appearance at a World Cup in 36 years, and how more than 40,000 of them made it to Russia to support the Blanquirroja this year.
“While every Blanquirroja game was a cauldron of noise thanks to them, their enthusiasm and openness saw them taken to the hearts of locals and rival fans alike, bringing red and white joy to the tournament,” you can read in the YouTube channel.
Even though the team was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup, where it faced Denmark, France and Australia, the Blanquirroja was praised by the great fans that accompanied it to Russia, being one of the most remembered so far during the soccer tournament, according to El Comercio.
You can vote for the Peruvian fans until September 24 on the FIFA website.
