Restaurant review: Hamburgo Restobar

Lima always has a surprise for foodies. In recent years, many new restaurants have opened, such as Hamburgo Restobar, which prepares international cuisine just as well as Peruvian.

What makes Hamburgo Restobar stand out

Hamburgo Restobar specializes in burgers, and the key of the culinary proposal is the mixture of the cut of meat (each burger has 200 grams of meat), the cold ripening (between 10 and 20 days), and a good selection of ingredients and combinations.

The restaurant has a great ambiance, which includes a terrace with tall tables, and rustic decoration. Along with burgers, they offer a diverse menu that includes big salads, sandwiches, and creative appetizers, including items such as BBQ wings, and a stuffed avocado with loin tartar in caramelized chili sauce. Every day they also offer a “plate of the day” (Spaghetti in huancaina sauce with chicken, or pesto fettuccini with scallops) for only S/ 20, which includes a drink.

More about the menu

For appetizers, we recommend the three pepper roast beef (S/ 31). This dish comes with a basil sauce, mushrooms, and parmesan, properly dressed with olive oil. We found this dish to be both intense and soft. The salads are big enough to share. You have five options, including two vegetarian choices that can also be ordered with meat if you wish. Another fine salad is the Ring Salad (S/ 21), which includes a mix of lettuce, arugula, tomatoes, bacon, avocado, and onion rings.

Opened in October, Hamburgo Restobar have some very popular burgers, such as the Super Cheese (S/ 33), which has two pieces of meat, cheddar, gouda, relish, and the secret house sauce. Another interesting burger is the Gourmeat (S/ 27), served with lettuce, gruyere mushrooms, and caramelized onion. Since being offered at a recent festival, these have become the most popular burgers on the menu. All of the restaurant’s burgers include a choice of fried potatoes or a fresh salad.

Hambgrill

As we find that burgers at many restaurants can be more like a meatloaf than a real burger, we enjoyed the Super Cheese for the way that it was perfectly cooked. It was juicy, lightly toasted, and compact. The homemade mayonnaise is also good, very spicy, and addictive. We also tried the Hambgrill (S/ 29), consisting of sausage and meat with chimichurri sauce. It was just good as the most popular burgers, and it made me think that Hamburgo’s salchipapa could be a good option.

Beverages

I’m also grateful that we didn’t forget to order drinks. At night you’ll find many craft beer options, national beers, as well as imports from Mexico, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Belgium, Ireland, and Scotland. You can also find author’s cocktails like Verano Azul, made with Pisco, soda and blue wine from Spain. Gin tonics, chilcano, and whiskeys are also part of the menu. And don’t worry if you’re accompanied by minors, as they also offer virgin drinks. Our favorite was the Golden Lemonade (S/ 12) with pineapple.
