Start your weekend in style with this celebration of Peruvian and Latin American design, hosted by Bodega MATE in Barranco.
‘Tis the season for gift giving—or is it self-gifting? Either way, Bodega MATE has your back.
From December 13-15, the gift shop of Mario Testino’s Museo MATE will open its doors (and the museum’s courtyard) to host a lively fair, La Verbena. Open to the public and free upon entrance, La Verbena will bring together some of the best designers in Peru and all of Latin America to set up shop for some holiday shopping, accompanied by cocktails, live music and cultural activities.
The participating designers share similar values to those held by MATE, being: rooted in Latin American culture, original, of upmost quality and timeless design. Stands will be set up showing off each of the 17 labels latest collection for Summer 2020, available for purchase.
Who’s participating? ESCVDO, Lorena Pestana, AYNI, Juan Arias, El clóset de mi hermana, Veplen, Galera, Vagrant, Karín de la Sierra, País Textil, Puna, Ale Morey, Claudia Jiménez & Úrsula Calle, Ana G, Quimera, GARUA and Aguaclar.
Already stocked up on presents? Don’t miss these cultural activities taking place during the three-day fair:
Friday, December 13
10am-1pm: Sip on a welcome cocktail and loosen up to the beats of DJ Galiani and Pricha. Too early for a cocktail? Please, it’s holiday shopping season.
3pm-6pm: Personalize a tote or tee with your own stamps. Time to show those designers your own creative side.
Saturday, December 14
10am-11:30am: Percussion party! With experts like Massiel Delgado and Amador ‘Chebo’ Ballumbrosio you’ll get a chance to hear true and traditional Peruvian rhythms. Did we mention this event is YBB? That’s yoga, body, ballet—so be prepared to move and groove.
4pm-6pm: ‘La Cena’ is a slightly disturbing yet oh so tantalizing exhibit/collection from designer Vacide Erde Zimic. Don’t miss this guided tour with the artist herself where you’ll get the backstory of those images of her grandmother posing with cuts of meat. Have we piqued your curiosity yet?
Sunday, December 15
11am-4pm: Paint the map of Barranco. Bring the kids and roll up your sleeves for this family-friendly activity.
3pm-5pm: Slow down, it’s Sunday. Sit back and enjoy the projection of short films, many of which are related to the permanent collection of Mario Testino’s work.
Address: Av. Pedro de Osma 409, Barranco
