Andina reports that over 900 small and medium-sized producers of organic
quinoa improved their harvest output thanks to trainings on agricultural technology.
Trainings carried out by The National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) allowed organic quinoa farmers to increase their earnings this year. Andina states that the profitability for over 900 producers increased by 40%.
The trainings were focused on improving pest control using technological tools instead of relying on the use of chemicals. The institute, which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, invested S/ 2.2 million in these projects.
Other outcomes include increasing the yield or production to 320 tons per hectare, per harvest campaign. Additionally, the farmers were able to diversify the quinoa varieties that they export, including red, white and black organic quinoa.
The quinoa producers who are part of the program are part of cooperatives located in the Puno and San Román provinces.
