Barranco Beer Company, an expat’s favorite brewery in Lima’s bohemian district, has been named as the best brewery in Peru!
Barranco Beer Company, the renowned family craft brewery located in the heart of Barranco, has just won as ‘The Best Brewery in Peru’ among other outstanding recognitions in ‘The Peruvian Cup of Beer 2021’.
This event brought together an expert panel of international and local judges who had the mission of blindly tasting 232 samples on October 4 and 5 and where 63 Peruvian craft breweries participated.
“We are very proud to have obtained such an important title as’ Best Brewery in Peru ‘, in this sixth edition of the Peruvian Beer Cup 2021’ and at the same time win ‘Gold Medal’ for our beers’ Take out your Machete in a Barrel ‘ and Puka, ‘Silver Medal’ for our icon beer ‘Don Mau’ and the favorite of local beer lovers, our ‘Take your Machete’”, says Maurice Lefevre, General Manager of Barranco Beer Company.

The beer winners
“Saca Tu Machete” is our beer with the most Peruvian character that celebrates the diversity of our beautiful land. Made with carob, organic cocoa nibs, honey and a touch of ají limo. An imperial stout more than Peruvian.
Silver medal winner and its luxury version with ‘Wood Aged Beer’ style barrel, gold winner. Experimental beer made in collaboration with the Don Michael distillery, we have aged a micro-batch for more than nine months in American oak barrels that previously had the unique purple corn-based whiskey ‘Black Whiskey’ at rest. Both in the ‘Specialty Beer’ category, presents Maurice.
“Puka Ale”, is a ‘Red Ipa’ whose name in Quechua means ‘Red’ intensely hopped with columbus, citra and cascade, caramelized notes and reddish color. Winner of the gold medal at the 2021 Peruvian Beer Cup in the ‘American Style Amber’ category, Lefevre tells us.
“And Don Mau, a beer created in honor of our brewing grandfather ‘Don Mauricio’. ‘Marzen’ style with notes of caramel malt, medium body, and reddish color. Winner of silver medal in the Peruvian Cup 2021 in its category.
