Limaná: An organic chic eatery with something for everyone

Share

Limaná has modern décor and a healthy vibe. Not only that: Limaná is the place to go if you have limitations of what you can eat. Anita Belaunde created this restaurant to inspire a healthier conscious and natural eating habits.

A menu for everyone

A menu that has something for everyone: Keto, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, organic, pesticide gluten, and dairy-free with a focus on superfoods. They don’t use refined sugar or sweeteners in any preparations instead it’s replaced by coconut sugar, honey, yacón syrup, or dates.

Limaná’s layout

The space is separated into different areas:

You can find a coffee place and a gourmet store with local and imported goods to take home. Their barista uses an organic premium coffee (338 brand) to pair with some sweets treats, like muffins, alfajores, or cookies. I grabbed a pistachio cookie that was crumbly and well balanced, not too sweet, or greasy.

The diner has two different sections: Covered areas and the central patio. As for the covered areas, you can choose to sit by their garden, near the kitchen, or if you have a private party, in their chef diner room that has a beautiful table made out of trees from the construction and resin. If you sit outside, you’ll be under Filomeno the tree in the central patio, which provides a lot of shade and some flowers that make you feel cozy and connected to nature.

There’s also the bar area, a space with a high rise and open space to talk and enjoy their cocktails and mocktails, like the refreshing “Mil y Una Noches” made with pineapple and orange blossom or their “Cool Mc. Cool” a green Cucumber and basil drink with a hint of lemon.

COVID-19 protocols

Every detail in this place is meticulously cared for, from the alcohol spray bottle that looks like a Xoloitzcuintli, every cushion, planter, paint to the lamps, and the dog plates. The architecture has this modern-industrial-meets-organic-natural way that invites you to stay and relax. Their COVID-19 protocols are spot on, they not only take your temperature but also use UV lights to disinfect everything that you will be in contact with.

Help from a Michelin star chef

Their chef, Sandra Coha (ig.@sandracoha), came from ABaC, a three Michelin star restaurant in Barcelona-Spain, to take very good care on the details of each plate. She arrived seven months ago when the restaurants opened back to the public, at that point following Anita’s philosophy, they together crafted the new iteration of the menu. Looking at vegetables in a different way. Most of which are sourced from their own farm in Chaclacayo and others from organic farmers from Pachacamac.  Their bar and some of the desserts use fresh herbs from the garden.

On the menu

The menu of their restaurant varies from breakfast to dinner. For breakfast, you can have toast, from avocado, tomato or trout, eggs, waffles, and bowls.

The lunch and dinner menu (http://limana.dextra.pe) has a little bit of everything, even appetizers to share. I got the gyozas stuffed with shitakes and vegetables. The filling was so delicious, the wrap was a bit thick and the sauce had a great flavor. The grated portobellos were quite interesting, they were laminated and covered with a well-done creamy cashew and ginger sauce.

That cashew sauce serves as a mother sauce for different plates, a sort of bechamel sauce that is also used on the grated cauliflower and the mushroom risotto.

Polenta
Trout from Puno

As for the main course, I feel that the menu lacks a bit on the protein side (for being keto), they only serve fish. I got the trout from Puno with carrot purée and sauteed vegetables. The trout had a great flavor, the carrot puree was sweet, the vegetables were perfectly executed.  Also ordered the Polenta, with a tomato sauce and pine nuts, that was creamy with great corn flavor, the tomato sauce was acidic and tangy. It was well executed but it felt that was needing something extra because I was that one was screaming for some beef.

The menu is only complete when everyone is well fed and that includes your pet. The lunch and dinner menu includes four different plates for your dog. Bowls of vegetables like carrots or broccoli, hypoallergenic, and high omega cookies are on the menu for your pooch in the pouch or your Bernese Mountain Dog.

Dessert

To finish up the experience, their desserts are guiltless pleasures with six different options to choose from. The chocolate pie had a raw crust with dates and coconut and chocolate custard. Also, their blueberry pie was overflowing with blueberry jam and fresh berries.
