The mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz, announced on Wednesday the cancellation of the construction contract for road work, with a company that shared the payment of bribes with the Brazilian firm Odebrecht, informed Prensa Latina.
Muñoz said that the company Graña y Montero will no longer take over the expansion of the expressway, a fast track linking the center with the south of the city.
This project, with a length of five kilometers, includes several bridges and accesses with a cost of $200 million US dollars, which some consider excessive.
Muñoz told the media that his decision was taken after former Odebrecht representative in Peru, Jorge Barata, confirmed this week to Peruvian prosecutors that his local associate, Graña y Montero was aware of the bribes to Peruvian officials for the works of the Electric Train of Lima and shared the expense for those bribes.
“The contract had been signed in 2013 and the project was frozen until 18 days ago”, Prensa Latina wrote.
