This San Isidro bar with a playful personality is staffed with skilled bartenders who take the craft of mixology very seriously.

Peru, especially Lima, has become well known for hosting a bevy of esteemed restaurants and amazing street food. But now it’s time for Peru’s watering holes to get some shine.

On October 3, a bar located in the district of San Isidro made it to the thirteenth spot among The World’s 50 Best Bars list.

Dazzling locals and international travelers to Peru alike, Carnaval opened just two years ago. Debuting among the top 20, the concept bar was also awarded The Highest New Entry Award 2019. Aaron Diaz, the bar’s creator and award-winning Peruvian bartender, describes his bar’s ambiance as making guests feel as if “they have entered Cirque du Soleil.” Our own review of the bar mirrors that sentiment.

You enter the trendy bar by way of a revolving door, a sure sign that Carnaval is a playful hangout unlike any other in Peru’s capital city. Unique cocktails inspired by recipes from around the world, handcrafted ice and cups and glasses designed by Peruvian artists are just some of the details to look forward to.

This isn’t a bar to order a traditional pisco sour: This is a place to open your taste buds to experimental drinks such as the Sachacool (pisco macerated with lime, mole pepper and sacha culantro).

Much like The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking, hundreds of international specialists in the bar sector are responsible for voting for the The World’s 50 Best Bars.
